Energy Laws

Other than much specialised practice of Electricity Laws, Nautiliyaa Legal also provides services in other energy laws. The coal and hydro power has been and still is the major source of power in India. However, Indian government has recently unveiled its policies and diverted its attention to the renewable sources of energy such as solar power. There are specific states where wind power is also harnessed. Equally the upstream segment of the natural gas sector in India (i.e., exploration and production, or E&P) falls under the overall executive authority of the government of India and the Director General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), an executive body which oversees the implementation of E&P operations. These segments are not governed by any specific statute leaving some aspects of upstream operations which are controlled by laws such as the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948, and the Petroleum Act, 1934. We cater to clients coming from business background of dealing with solar power and in liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the natural gas sector. We assist in registration of terminals required to be registered with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), the regulatory body under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006 (PNGRB Act). We also deal with legalities of the natural gas transmission and distribution segment regulated by the PNGRB. We help draft documents for pricing of natural gas which remains un-regulated, other than gas produced by government-controlled companies, or by companies under specific contractual provisions with the government.
